Getting big!

It is hard to believe that Presley is 3 and 1/2 months! He is getting so big so fast! I can't even begin to describe what an absolute joy he is. He fits in perfectly with our little family and definitely makes me want more dogs. His last set of shots will be Oct. 22nd and then annually after. I'll def. feel better once that is done. I see more and more of his personality everyday. I just had to share the pictures! The first one is Presley in his new pj's...in the 2nd he is giving momma kisses :)

Presley

We got Presley when he was only 7 weeks old. He is now 9 weeks. We absolutely love our little angel! He has a huge personality!

My Chihuahua Story

For many years I lived in an apartment and really wanted a dog. Once we moved we had discussed getting a dog but decided to wait. I really wanted a Yorkie and knew that it would be awhile before I could give it the attention it needed. Shortly after moving I found out that my neighbor had got a little chihuahua that weighed only a pound. He was keeping him outside! There are lots of large animals..raccoons, rabbits, birds...where we live. He was feeding the dog hamburger meat and table food. It absolutely drove me crazy that the poor little thing was not getting proper care.
I begged him to do something..I even told him that I would take it. He assured me the dog would be fine but I just couldn't give up. He was given an ultimatum. Either he find the dog a good home or I was calling the Humane Society. Finally, he decided to let me have him. Knowing that he was obviously sick, I took him to the vet and explained the whole situation.
We named him Banksy. He was diagnosed with coxidia. I had to give him medicine by mouth several times a day. I also fed him every two hours by syringe. There were days when he seemed to be a little better and days where he didn't seem to feel well at all. One day when I went to his bed I realized that he was really out of it. I called the vet and was terrified that he would die in my arms on the way there. They kept Banksy overnight on an IV. Unfortunately, he didn't survive the night.
Banksy had been exposed to parvo and hadn't had any of his shots. We were unable to get started on his shots until the coxidia was taken care of. We did everything we could to save him. I found out later that my neighbor had already had a dog die of parvo only a month before getting the chi. I was furious.
My husband and I were heartbroken. He decided that getting a new dog would be the best way for us to deal with our loss. We spent hours bleaching and using lysol on our house. Then, we went out to get our new dog. He was easy to find..another chihuahua..that looked a lot like Banksy. I was determined to give a little dog a good life. We named him Presley (my hubby is a big Elvis fan) and so far we've had him for several weeks.
